How do I get started with Zupzi?

Setup happens on your phone first, then on the device your child will use. Each step has a one-minute video in How it works:

  1. Download Zupzi from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Create your parent account with Apple, Google or e-mail, then name your family.
  3. Add your child: her name, a picture, a 4-digit PIN and your consent.
  4. Pick her missions from the ready-made list, or write your own. The everyday basics for her age are already switched on.
  5. See it the way she does with a practice mission. Nothing counts.
  6. Set up the device she'll use with a 6-digit code you read aloud.
  7. Create rewards she can ask for with her Stars.

How do I reach a person at Zupzi?

Write to support@zupzi.io, or use Help & feedback on the Family screen of the app. A person reads every message and answers. Privacy requests, such as a copy of your data, are answered within 30 days, and usually much sooner.

What Zupzi doesn't do

  • There is no Android version and no web app.
  • The App Store has Zupzi only in the United States and Brazil.
  • The app screens are in English only; Zuzi also speaks Portuguese.
  • Each family can add up to two children.
  • Zupzi has no chat between people, no location tracking and no app blocking.

What do families ask about getting started?

Is Zupzi free?

Yes. Zupzi is free to download and use, with unlimited missions, photo proof and rewards included. The app has no ads.

Is there anything to pay for?

No. There is nothing to buy in the app or on this site. Zupzi has no in-app purchases, Stars cannot be bought with money, and the app never asks you or your child for money.

Who creates the account, and how do I sign in?

A parent or legal guardian, 18 or older, creates the account. You sign in with Apple (Hide My Email works), with Google, or with an e-mail and password. Children never sign in; they open their own side with a PIN. See Create your parent account.

How many children can I add?

Each family can add up to two children. Each child gets her own profile, her own missions, her own Stars and her own 4-digit PIN, so a brother or sister can't play as her.

How does my child open her side of the app?

On the phone or tablet she will use, you pair Zupzi with a 6-digit code from your side; the code expires after 10 minutes. Then she picks her profile and enters her 4-digit PIN. You can see paired devices and turn any of them off. See Set up your kid's tablet.

What do families ask about missions and photos?

What missions come ready-made?

Zupzi comes with 26 ready-made missions in six groups: Routine, Home, School, Pets, Wellness and Creative. Each has its own picture, two or three simple steps and a suggested number of Stars. When you add a child, the everyday basics for her age are already switched on, and you can change any of them.

Can I write my own missions?

Yes, as many as you like. For each one you choose the Stars it is worth (1 to 1,000), how often it repeats (daily, weekly or once), an optional time of day for daily missions, and whether it needs a photo. See Pick missions, or write your own.

What if my child can't read yet?

Every mission has a Read it to me button. Ready-made missions and their steps are read aloud in Zuzi's recorded voice; for missions you write, the iPhone's own voice reads the title and description. More in Read-aloud missions.

How does photo proof work?

When a mission needs a photo, your child takes one with the camera, right then (she can't pick an old photo from the library), and it lands on your phone. You look and approve with one tap, and there is a small celebration when she sends it and another when you approve. More in Photo proof and Approve with one tap.

Who sees mission photos, and how long are they kept?

Mission photos go to you for approval and live in private storage kept separate for each family. They are deleted after one month unless you choose 1 week, 3 months or 1 year in the Safety Center. If you turn on the optional photo coach, the photo is also sent to Alibaba Cloud's Qwen service for a tip.

What is the AI photo coach?

It is an optional helper that is off until you turn it on. It looks at a mission photo and cheers your child on with a spoken tip before she sends it. It can be wrong and it never decides Stars: you still approve. The photo, the mission's name and its steps go to Alibaba Cloud's Qwen service in Singapore, never your child's name, and are not used to train its models.

What do families ask about Stars and rewards?

How do Stars work?

Your child earns Stars only from missions you approve. She spends them by tapping Ask on a reward you created; you say yes, then deliver it in real life. Stars already promised to a request that is waiting for your answer can't be spent twice. More in Stars and rewards and She asks, you say yes.

What kind of rewards can I set?

Real-world rewards you choose and deliver yourself, like a movie night or a trip to the park. You type the reward and pick a picture from 27 illustrations in six groups: Treats, Outings, Room, Dress up, Pets and Magic. See Create rewards.

Do Stars have cash value?

No. Stars have no cash value, cannot be bought with money and cannot be exchanged for it. Rewards are agreed and delivered between you and your child.

Do the games give Stars?

No. Stars come only from missions you approve. ABC Kitty and Seasons Run are built in and award medals inside the game, and the Funny Mirror is built in too. Your child can ask for new games, and you decide what gets unlocked. See Games: ask, unlock, play.

What do families ask about Zuzi?

Who is Zuzi?

Zuzi is the voice companion inside Zupzi. Your child talks and Zuzi listens and talks back, with sums and times tables as her specialty. If asked, she says she is a toy character from the Zupzi app, never a human. More in Zuzi.

Is Zuzi on by default?

No. In the Safety Center, Where Zuzi listens starts at Not yet. Until you choose Allowed, your child sees that Zuzi needs a grown-up, and no voice leaves the device. See The Safety Center.

How long can my child talk to Zuzi?

Each family has 10 minutes of Zuzi a month, shared by the whole family. You can also set a daily limit from 0 to 50 minutes in the Safety Center; the shorter of the two always wins.

Can I see what my child said to Zuzi?

Yes. After every conversation, the full transcript and a short summary are e-mailed to you. You can report any conversation from its notice in the app, and a person reads every report and replies. See Talk to Zuzi.

Where does my child's voice go when she talks to Zuzi?

Only after you allow it, her voice goes through Zupzi's relay in the United States, which keeps nothing, to Alibaba Cloud's Qwen voice service in Singapore. Alibaba's terms say it does not use your child's words to train its models. Zupzi keeps no audio and sends only her first name, never an e-mail, a photo or your family's identity.

What do families ask about safety and data?

Does Zupzi have ads or tracking?

No. The app has no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking software, and no advertising identifier. Zupzi never sells, rents or shares personal information for marketing. More in Safety and privacy.

Can my child talk to other people in Zupzi?

No. There is no chat or messaging between users: a child can only ever talk to Zuzi, and only after you allow it. Your child's side also has no web links and no way out to a browser.

What can I control in the Safety Center?

Quiet hours (8 PM to 7 AM when you turn them on; notices still arrive, the phone just stops buzzing), how long mission photos are kept, time with Zuzi each day, whether Zuzi may listen, the photo coach, and what you get notified about: Everything, Approvals only or Nothing.

How does parental consent work?

When you add a child, you confirm that you are her parent or legal guardian and that you agree to the Privacy Policy for what Zupzi keeps about her. Zupzi records when you agreed. Zuzi and the photo coach each have their own separate switch.

How do I delete my child's data or the whole account?

To remove one child, go to Family, open the child and tap Remove. To delete everything, go to Settings and tap Delete family account, then type the word the app shows. It removes your children, their missions, Stars, rewards, photos and your login, and it cannot be undone. If another adult shares the family, only your own login is removed.
